Not everyone pays attention to it, but the safety of wall and floor solutions is of vital importance in hospitals and care centers. Working hygienically is not a goal, but a must. But other factors, such as the build-up of electrostatic charge and slipperiness, also pose a certain risk. Which floors really control these risk factors?
During operations, ‘trifles’ that are hidden from view can have far-reaching consequences. Hygiene requirements are vital during the operation and during the patient’s recovery process. In order to leave nothing to chance, the floors and walls must be kept as sterile as possible. Good cleanability is therefore a strict requirement.
The hygienic character of the floor gets an extra dimension after it has been finished with a hollow plinth (finished with a liquid-tight coating) that overflows into the wall. In this way no dirt can end up in the corners, edges and walls and a seamless edge and wall connection with the floor is created. (Also recommended within sanitary rooms!)
Wherever measuring and intervention systems, such as pace-makers and respiratory equipment, are used, there is another potential risk. The build-up of electrostatic charge as a result of walking movements can disrupt these systems, with all the associated consequences. ESD floors prevent this by draining and neutralizing the accumulated electrostatic charge. When the floor is finished with an antistatic coating, body voltage generation is also prevented.
Where people work and stay, freedom of movement and walking comfort are also important. Polyurethane floors in particular are therefore ideal in rooms where employees, clients and/or patients must be able to move freely, for example with a view to the movement of beds and wheelchairs. If desired, HIM LMP (Line Marking Paint) can be applied to mark walkways.
Working safely and working safely on recovery starts with a stable surface that is based on preventive action. After all, as the well-known adage states: prevention is better than cure.
